在美国波士顿举行的Red Hat Summit会议上,红帽公司对外公布了其全部系列产品的发布路线图,红帽表示将会把RHEL 4 和5的技术服务期限由原计划的3年延长到4年.

红帽将会在延长的服务期内对RHEL 4 和5继续提供每年两次的产品升级,这包括对新的硬件产品的支持,修复原有的系统漏洞以及添加新的功能.

　　红帽表示他们之所以决定延长RHEL 4 和5的生存周期,是因为原始设备制造商一直在要求红帽使其前后两代操作系统能够同时对新的硬件设备提供支持.

　　RHEL 4 和5在发行5年以后将会进入被新版操作系统取代的阶段,届时红帽只会对其进行不定期的一些小修小补.在进入发行后的第6年和第7年后,RHEL 4 和5将步入被取代的最终阶段,红帽将只会对其致命性的漏洞和安全隐患进行修复.

　　RHEL 4于2005年发布,按原计划到目前它应该已进入被新版本取代的阶段了,但是红帽公司此次的决定将其生命周期延长到了2009年底.7月21日,红帽公司将会发布RHEL 4.7.

　　红帽公司市场营销主管ANdrew Cathrow表示,RHEL 4.7相比RHEL 4将会做出近1000项修改,RHEL 4.8将会与2009年上半年推出.

　　RHEL 5于2007年发布,所以到2011年,红帽公司都会对其进行正常的升级,RHEL 5的下一个版本RHEL 5.3将会与2009年1月份推出,新版本将会附带额外的电源管理功能,在x86-64系统下可以支持8TB的内存.

　　据Red Hat透露,新一代的RHEL正处于规划之中,但是其发布日期目前还没有确定,Red Hat表示新一代的操作系统将主要集中在以下几方面的改进上:系统管理,虚拟化技术,电源管理,更加完善的桌面环境,新的调度程序等等.
